March 15, 2007 HUNTING
Bill enjoyed hunting every year for many years. He would go out with his Dad and friends Harry Hoch and Whitie Larson. They always brought their quota of deer home. They went up in the hills around Idaho. They would tromp all over the hills; they had a plan. He could hike all day and when they were ready to go back to camp, Bill could take them back to camp the shortcut way without having to back track. He had a very good sense of direction.
When they brought their deer in, they could take it to the lockers and hang it for two weeks, then we would have a day where we all got together and cut it for freezing. It was a family day when we would cut up the deer, and divide and everyone got a share.
One day Bill took me hunting with him. We took a small trailer up to the hills and set up our campsite. Bill got up about 6 AM when it was just getting light. I am no good in the morning, so went back to bed.
About two hours later, he came in and asked if I had seen the deer. They had walked through the campsite after he had left. There had been about four, he figured, by the tracks. I just wasn't the hunter he was.
He also went chuckar and pheasant hunting. He had his dog, Silky, a weimaraner that he took with him. She was the best hunting dog. They worked as a team. She would set pheasants when the other dogs were still running around. She was very protective of Bill.
